Michigan football DT Alessandro Lorenzetti plans to enter NCAA transfer portal

Michigan Wolverines football senior defensive tackle Alessandro Lorenzetti plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, his agency told On3. Lorenzetti has been at Michigan since 2022 and didn’t appear in any games.
The 6-foot-5, 285-pound Montreal, Québec, native attended The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn., and was an unranked recruit, according to On3.
Since he redshirted in 2022, Lorenzetti has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Lorenzetti began his Michigan career as an offensive lineman, but shifted to defensive line. No matter what side of the ball he was on, Lorenzetti appeared to be buried on the depth chart throughout his career.
He enrolled in the summer ahead of the 2022 season and played the majority of his career under former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. The former head man departed the program following the 2023 campaign, with Sherrone Moore taking over.
“Out of Montreal and going to prep school in Connecticut right now where he’s playing good football,” Harbaugh said after Lorenzetti signed with the Wolverines. “Visited here in the summer. This was the only time we were really able to do evaluations on 2022s and when everything happened this past summer, a blanket waiver was given by the NCAA where you could do a workout, a private workout.
“Alessandro came and knocked the socks off of Sherrone Moore, and the recruiting process was really turned up with Alessandro. Great kid, great guy, great parents.”

Lorenzetti didn’t see much individual success outside of the practice field, but Michigan posted a 36-6 record during his time in Ann Arbor. Lorenzetti won two Big Ten championships and was a part of the 2023 Wolverine team that finished with a 15-0 mark and won the program’s 12th national championship. U-M went 8-5 in its first season under Moore in 2024.
In an interview with The Wolverine in 2022, Loomis Chaffee offensive coordinator Donnie McKillop praised Lorenzetti.
“He’s a guy who wants to be perfect and wants to really have a deep understanding of everything,” McKillop said. “He asks a lot of questions and is always seeking answers and support and is trying to always get better.”
McKillop believed Lorenzetti’s personality would be a great fit at Michigan.
“He’s a funny one to work with,” the coach explained. “He’s got a goofy personality at times, but he’s very driven and serious and wants to really have an elite performance from him and the guys around him.”
Lorenzetti will now pursue opportunities elsewhere.
