Michigan podcast topics

• We break down what kind of impact Anoma can have right away, considering he joined the team just 17 days before the season-opener. He might not be an every-down player right away (in fact, we’d highly doubt it), but he can make plays at the EDGE, potentially the easiest position to step into with limited playbook knowledge.

• The quarterback battle between Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy is still neck and neck, and things are trending toward that both will play, and play a lot, early in the season before head coach Jim Harbaugh and Co. make a final decision. Even at that point, things could change on a dime, since both will likely still rotate in.

• Fall camp MVPs and tone-setters. Flat out, Michigan has a lot of them, with Harbaugh naming several during his Wednesday news conference. We also discuss the health of the team.

• Big Ten Network analyst Gerry DiNardo hasn’t always been Michigan fans’ favorite, but he was raving about the Wolverines after stopping by practice Wednesday.

One comment in particular stood out:

“Based on today’s practice, yes, they can continue to play for the championship,” the analyst said. “There was this 10 year war — it was Woody [Hayes] at Ohio State and Bo [Schembechler] at Michigan. They were evenly matched. I think that’s where we’re headed. And that series was 5-4-1 in favor of Michigan.

“I would be surprised, as we go forward, if the next four, five years, this thing with Ohio State and Michigan [doesn’t go] back and forth, back and forth. I don’t think we’re going to see either team dominate this series like Ohio State has recently dominated until last year. That’s how good I think this team is.”
