Michigan flipped four-star defensive lineman Benny Patterson from Cincinnati, with the official announcement coming Friday morning. More from The Wolverine’s EJ Holland:

Patterson’s decision comes less than a week following his official visit for the game against Michigan State. It was there where the Wolverines built the momentum needed to eventually land him.

“The culture has been very impressive,” Patterson’s father, Benny Jr., told national analyst Steve Wiltfong during last weekend’s visit. “You can tell why players commit here. The Big House exceeded expectations. It was the loudest arena we’ve ever been in. The fans are passionate and love their team.  The program is something special and it’s definitely high on the list.”

Patterson was scheduled to visit USC this weekend. However, it no longer appears that trip will be happening.

Patterson originally committed to Cincinnati back in April. However, Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito offered Patterson this fall and made a strong push to flip him. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was also personally involved in this recruitment.

At 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, Patterson is ranked as the No. 65 defensive lineman and No. 681 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 10 overall recruit in the state of Indiana this cycle.

More flips were on the day, with Michigan getting another, with top-100 cornerback Shamari Earls flipping from Georgia to U-M late Friday night.

More from The Wolverine’s EJ Holland:

Earls originally committed to Georgia over Michigan in the summer. However, U-M head coach Sherrone Moore and secondary coach LaMar Morgan never gave up.

Both Moore and Morgan had frequent calls with Earls throughout the fall and did everything possible to win him over.

“We have a really close relationship,” Earls said. “It’s been like that since Day 1. They never stopped trying or communicating even after I committed to Georgia. They were always there.”

Earls’ decision comes less than a week after he made an unofficial visit to Michigan for the Wolverines’ victory over rival Michigan State.

It was there where Earls truly felt at home.

Michigan Wolverines football (5-3 overall, 3-2 Big Ten) will do battle with No. 1 Oregon (8-0, 5-0) Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines announced on social media Friday afternoon that they’ll wear their traditional blue jerseys with maize pants and blue accessories.

Michigan has gone with blue on maize for four of six home games so far this season — wins over Fresno State, Arkansas State, Minnesota and Michigan State. The Wolverines sported blue jerseys with blue pants in two clashes, too, a loss to Texas and a victory over USC.

The Wolverines’ traditional colors will clash with Oregon’s always-creative uniforms. The Ducks will wear their “warp speed” combination, featuring black and silver helmets, white jerseys and white pants.
