Top 100 tight end Andrew Olesh had been committed to Michigan since July but flipped to Penn State on Friday. The move was quite the stunner, since the two schools believed to be most in the mix heading into the announcement were U-M and Oregon. He spurned both to stay home in Pennsylvania.

More from The Wolverine’s EJ Holland:

Olesh originally committed to Michigan in July but continued to make visits throughout the fall, making stops at Alabama, Notre Dame, Oregon and Penn State. Both Oregon and Penn State were relentless in their pursuits for Olesh through National Signing Day.

Olesh made a visit to Michigan the weekend of the Northwestern game. Olesh spent all day on campus on Sunday, and there seemed to be optimism that he would remain in the class. However, Olesh decided that he was a better fit elsewhere.

The loss of Olesh means Michigan is left with one tight end in its 2025 recruiting class. The Wolverines could take a look at remaining options in the late period or focus on its elite targets in the 2026 recruiting class.

At 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, Olesh is ranked as the No. 3 tight end and No. 55 overall prospect in the country this cycle, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in the state of Pennsylvania.

With Olesh deciding not to sign with Michigan, the Wolverines have a 22-member class coming out of early signing day. U-M made it official with a release Friday evening.

From MGoBlue.com:

The University of Michigan football program announced Friday (Dec. 6) the signing of 22 student-athletes to the Wolverines’ 2025 recruiting class. Michigan inked a top-10 recruiting class according to every major outlet: Rivals.com (seventh), USA Today (seventh), On3.com (ninth) and 247Sports (ninth).

U-M addressed every position group in this year’s recruiting class. The Wolverines added multiple players at every offensive skill position group except for quarterback, where they signed the nation’s No. 1-rated prospect in Bryce Underwood from Belleville High School. Michigan continued to place a heavy emphasis on the offensive and defensive lines, signing three offensive linemen, three defensive linemen as well as two edge defenders.

Overall, the Wolverines inked players from 13 different states. The core of this year’s recruiting class includes five players from Michigan, three student-athletes from Georgia and two apiece from Louisiana, Maryland and Texas.

Quote Of The Day

“We want to be a balanced team. We’ve still got to be able to run the football — that’s got to be a thing to do — but someone that’s going to develop the quarterback at a high rate and put them in a great position. And obviously, we’ve got to be able to teach a young guy whether he starts day one, week two, year two, whatever it is … you’ve got to develop them, you’ve got to see the progress. As far as what the offense will look like, that will take shape as we go.”
