Newsstand: Former Michigan WR Ronnie Bell joins Detroit Lions
Tweets Of The Day
Former Michigan wide receiver Ronnie Bell was waived by the San Francisco 49ers in late-November, spending the rest of the 2024 NFL season on the franchise’s practice squad. The second-year pro (entering his third season) has a new home, though, and it’s just down the road from where he played college football in Ann Arbor.
Bell has signed a reserve/future contract with the Detroit Lions, who won the NFC North and earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs this season. A reserve/future contract means he will likely be a part of the team’s 90-man roster that takes effect the first day of the new league year.
The Kansas City, Mo., native played in nine games in 2024, hauling in 2 catches for 22 yards. He saw action in all 17 regular-season tilts for the 49ers as a rookie in 2023, grabbing 6 catches for 68 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Michigan’s coaching staff members visited 2026 Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star wide receiver Travis Johnson at his high school. Head coach Sherrone Moore, general manager Sean Magee, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and running backs coach and run game coordinator Tony Alford all pulled up.
Michigan’s official NIL collective, Champions Circle, is looking for new members to help support the Wolverines’ teams, such as football and basketball.

UofMCoverage makes a compelling argument that Ohio State — which lost to Michigan for the fourth-straight season — is the most fraudulent national champion in college football history.
Quote Of The Day
“I met with him a couple of days before. He came to my school to see me. He’s a really good coach. We’re getting closer. He’s doing a good job of recruiting guys and building. He’s the only head coach that visited me, so it shows that he really wants me.”
