Grading how Michigan filled needs at each position on National Signing Day

Below, we hand out our annual grades for how Michigan filled needs at each position group. We weighed both short- and long-term needs but took into account the fact that most prep recruits aren’t ready to be significant contributors as freshman. With that, Michigan wasn’t knocked for not having instant impact players at every position — we instead examined the big picture. Additionally, Michigan wasn't docked for not having a transfer in yet, since there’s ample time to reel in imports from other schools.
