No school has had players selected in more consecutive NFL Drafts than Michigan Wolverines football. It became 85 in a row when the Wolverines saw defensive tackle Mazi Smith go No. 26 overall in the first round to the Dallas Cowboys Thursday night, an incredible feat. That was followed up by tight end Luke Schoonmaker (Dallas Cowboys) and cornerback DJ Turner (Cincinnati Bengals) being taken in the second round, and kicker Jake Moody being selected in the third round.

Michigan Wolverines football got a boost to its special teams group, with the addition of former Louisville kicker James Turner, who announced his commitment Friday afternoon. Turner, who has two years of eligibility remaining, made his pledge official with a post on his Twitter account.

“Thankful for my time at Louisville the last four years,” Turner wrote. “Excited for this opportunity at the University of Michigan. GO BLUE!”

Turner is a Saline, Mich., native, hailing from less than 10 miles south of The Big House. He entered the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday and reportedly requested that teams not contact him. He then quickly made his commitment to hometown Michigan just three days later.

Turner, a two-time All-ACC honorable mention (2020 and 2022), had an outstanding season last year, making 20 of 22 field goals for the Cardinals and 47 of 59 over three years. Many of them were critical, and last year he set the school record last season for accuracy.

Michigan landed its third 2024 commitment in less than a week as Ponte Vedra Beach (Fla.) High interior offensive lineman Jake Guarnera publicly announced his decision on Friday.

The Wolverine have now taken sole possession of first place for the most verbal commits this cycle (15) which is three more than both Penn State and Ohio State.

Guarnera chose Michigan over notable offers from Florida, Penn State, Rutgers and NC State. All five programs were included in the junior’s Top 5 list released back on April 11th. He last visited Ann Arbor this past month following an appearance for last year’s BBQ at The Big House and the Hawaii game in early September.

Quote Of The Day

“I love the physicality, man. Football has been taking care of me my whole life. I’ve been playing since I was seven, so I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t put that helmet on to hit somebody. That’s just my nature [and] in my blood. It’s just something that I feel I was designed to do and forever thankful to God that I got this opportunity.”
