Michigan is No. 2 in the preseason coaches and AP polls, but ESPN.com’s Football Power Index (FPI) gives the Wolverines the sixth-best chance to win it all at 3.9 percent, behind Ohio State (36.7), Alabama (20.4), Georgia (19.1), Texas (5.7) and LSU (4.1). The Maize and Blue have won the Big Ten title the last two seasons and were picked by the media to take home the crown for the third straight season, but the Buckeyes are still ahead per ESPN.com, leading the nation.

The Michigan football Twitter account posted some photos from practice Thursday.

Michigan got off to a slow start against TCU and made too many miscues, but the offense heated up in the second half. However, the Wolverines’ defense faltered down the stretch in the 51-45 loss.

Yesterday marked 16 days until Michigan football begins its 2023 season Sept. 2 at The Big House, with East Carolina coming to town. No. 16 Denard Robinson was one of the most electric players in program and college football history, and one of his top plays was his 87 yard touchdown run at Notre Dame in 2010. That was the longest rush in the history of Notre Dame Stadium. In that game, Robinson totaled 502 yards of total offense — 258 rushing and 244 passing — an all time performance. Robinson, of course, led Michigan to a big win over Notre Dame the following season, as well, in the Wolverines’ first ever night game at The Big House.

Michigan junior running back Donovan Edwards is expected to have a great year in 2023. His breakthrough performance in 2022 came at Ohio State last season, when he rushed for 75 and 85 yard touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Quote Of The Day

“Personally, I think I’ve gotten better on my pass rush. Collectively, as a d-line, that was our main goal this year … taking that step in the pass rush, creating more tackles for loss, more negative plays for the offense to put us in a better position. Pass rush is something especially I think I focused more on. My goal this year is to go even beyond last year …  that was my freshman year. I’m a little more experienced now with all the snaps I’ve gotten last year. I’m trying to be more of an impact [player] this year.”
