Michigan Wolverines football hasn’t gotten off to the best start to the 2023 recruiting class (by the program’s lofty standards), but the defensive end spot is in good shape. Colleyville (Texas) Covenant Christian four-star Enow Etta made his pledge to the Maize and Blue Wednesday afternoon, joining Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic fellow four-star Collins Acheampong. That makes it a pair of four-star EDGE commits for Michigan, which hasn’t accomplished that feat since 2020.

Defensive line coach Mike Elston and coordinator Jesse Minter will have plenty of talent to work with at the position for years to come.

“[Elston’s] track record seems really respectable,” Etta told TheWolverine.com. “I watched film with him and seeing the things he did at Notre Dame and the way he coaches, I think he would definitely be a good coach for me. Some of these colleges have coaches, but you don’t get developed. I think he can actually develop me.”

The Wolverines’ class moved up to No. 25 in the nation after Etta joined the fold.

The University of Michigan introduced Santa J. Ono as the school’s 15th president at a special board of regents meeting Wednesday. Ono is known for being face-first involved in the community and pro-athletics, which is music to the ears of U-M students, alums, faculty and fans.

He wants to win big in athletics, Ono said at his introductory press conference.

“It knits the whole community together,” Ono said in his question and answer session. “There’s tremendous synergy between academics and athletics, and I want to do everything I can to make sure Michigan competes at the highest level.”

Michigan has swung and missed on multiple offensive line targets this cycle, and the board continues to expand. Position coach and co-offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore extended a new offer Wednesday, to Villa Rica (Ga.) High three-star interior lineman Jatavius Shivers, a former Vanderbilt pledge who backed off his commitment and is completely open. He also has offers from Indiana, South Carolina, Florida State, Ole Miss and others.

Quote Of The Day

“If you talk with the coaches and ADs at UBC and Cincinnati, they’ll tell you I’m passionate about it and supportive of them. I’m even known to go in there during halftime and give the team a pep talk. Whatever I can do. These are difficult roles, to be a scholar-athlete. You’re taking classes and you’re training. You’re traveling. I’m there for them.”
