Michigan football countdown to kickoff: 60 days until 2022 season
There’s much anticipation heading into the Michigan Wolverines football season, and TheWolverine.com is counting down the days until the Sept. 3 opener against Colorado State. We’ll discuss current Michigan events, upcoming season and/or take a look at a significant number that correlates with how many days remain until kickoff, whether it be a player’s jersey number, a year, a date, a score, etc.
Michigan Wolverines football has a light schedule compared to past seasons. The Maize and Blue are one of seven Power Five teams to not face another P5 squad during the non-conference slate, with their first three opponents being Colorado State, Hawai’i and Connecticut. Each program has a first-year head coach and combined for a 9-27 record last season.
The Wolverines have lost just non-conference game against a non-Power Five school under eighth-year head coach Jim Harbaugh, at Notre Dame in 2018.
Harbaugh and Co. have played Hawai’i once before, beating down the Rainbow Warriors, 63-3, in 2016. That 60-point win is the sixth-most decisive victory in U-M history and stands second in the Harbaugh era to the 78-0 triumph at Rutgers that same year.
Michigan vs. Hawai’i was a 60-point win, the sixth-most decisive victory in U-M history. It stands second in the Harbaugh era to the 78-0 triumph at Rutgers that same year.

We’re not saying it’ll be Hawai’i specifically, but Michigan could get close to a 60-point win against one of the first three opponents, depending on how the game plays out. If the Wolverines open things up offensively — something many expect them to do — we could see some offensive fireworks that lead to a huge victory. In addition, Harbaugh hasn’t been adverse to keeping the foot on the gas against lesser opponents. And remember, style points and point margins do matter in the eyes of the College Football Playoff committee.
Donovan Peoples-Jones returns punt 60 yards for touchdown
Nebraska will return to The Big House for a Nov. 12 showdown. The last time the Cornhuskers visited Ann Arbor, Michigan won in decisive fashion, 56-10 in 2018. That game produced this gem of a Donovan Peoples-Jones touchdown. The wideout returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown, with the play serving as one of his signature plays in a winged helmet.
