How many years of eligibility each Michigan football player has remaining
Michigan Wolverines football returns quite a bit of its production from the 2021 season, but the squad only has five players who will be out of eligibility after the 2022 campaign. That’s an extremely lower number than normal but is due to the NCAA deeming the 2020-21 academic year a ‘free year’ when it comes to an athlete’s eligibility.
As we saw this offseason, most players will still not stick around for a fifth or sixth season — either by their choice or the program’s. Michigan and other football teams across the country still need to meet the 85 scholarship limit, even with players having extra eligibility.
Starting this season, The Wolverine is referring to Michigan players by the class U-M lists them as on its official roster. U-M uses five ways to refer to an athlete’s class: Freshman, sophomore, junior, senior and graduate.
Here’s a look at the Michigan football roster, as of Aug. 26, 2022, and how we will refer to scholarship players.
