Notes from Michigan football press conference

• Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has said on multiple occasions that he believes U-M has a “no-star” defense. That’s manifested itself in camp, where the emphasis is to become a more cohesive unit. Minter said he likes the approach but believes by the end of the year the Wolverines will have multiple stars.

• Clinkscale discussed guys who are pushing for playing time at all three defensive back position groups — cornerback, safety and nickel. We’ve heard so much about senior Mike Sainristil at the nickel spot ever since he moved over to defense in the spring, but there are other names who are pushing him at the position, Clinkscale explained.

• Michigan sophomore cornerback Ja’Den McBurrows was seen in a cast on his leg at the Orange Bowl Dec. 31, and has missed extensive time this offseason. He’s back working out and rehabbing with the trainers, Clinkscale revealed, but he’s not participating in practice just yet. The Wolverines are hopeful — and confident, from the sounds of it — that he’ll return this season. Clinkscale said that when he does, he’ll factor into the rotation. For now, he’s ‘Clink Jr.,’ helping coach his teammates up and keeping the spirits high.
