Newsstand: Jesse Minter touts strong culture on Michigan football team
Tweets Of The Day
Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter described position battles on the team as “competitive, not combative.” The team’s strong culture has allowed that to manifest.
“There’s competition amongst individuals at certain positions, there’s competition offense versus defense and trying to make each other better,” Minter said last week. “Iron sharpens iron. So I really think just the culture here, that mentality sort of takes care of itself.
“The coolest thing here is that the guys in competition are the ones helping each other the most. Some places I’ve been even or you go, where like, two guys are in a competition and they’re not even sitting next to each other in the cafeteria, because they’re in a heated competition. Here, these guys are great in the meeting room. They’re always trying to give each other tips, advice.
“I mean, [graduate linebacker] Mike Barrett has probably helped [sophomore] Ernest Hausmann more than any player here. And like, that’s the guy that he’s trying to hold off to be a starter. So I think that’s what I respect most about the culture at this place and how these guys operate. And it’s really special to see every day.”
Michigan is just 11 wins away from becoming the first college football team to reach 1,000 all time wins.

Quote Of The Day
“Definitely the sky’s the limit. We can go all the way this year. You look around this team, and you’re like, ‘These guys are good.’ Every position is so good. There are a lot of naysayers out there who say the receiver room is the worst part of the team, but if you look at it, we’re still very good. You look at the running backs, very good. Quarterbacks, good. O-line is deep. D-line is deep. Safeties, corners … I don’t think you can see a better roster out there this year.” — Michigan senior wide receiver Roman Wilson on the ‘In The Trenches’ podcast with host Jon Jansen, a former U-M All-American and national champion
