Michigan press conference notes

The following are among the topics discussed at Schembechler Hall Monday afternoon:

• The Iowa defense and what kind of challenges it presents. Harbaugh mentioned how the lineage of the defensive philosophy goes back over 20 years, and touted how good of a scheme coordinator Phil Parker has implemented over the last decade-plus. The Michigan coach discussed how the Hawkeyes are so fundamentally sound that mistakes from their opponents are killer.

• The Michigan pass rush and how it can improve. Harbaugh also mentioned a name that is emerging and can be of help there — graduate Eyabi Okie, a UT Martin transfer who arrived in the middle of August and is beginning to master the play book.
