Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, now entering his second season with the Los Angeles Chargers, joined Pro Football Talk and was asked about J.J. McCarthy, the second-year Vikings quarterback who helped Harbaugh win a national title in Ann Arbor.

“I mean, love J.J. McCarthy,” Harbaugh said. “He’s someone that’s so much like [Chargers quarterback] Justin Herbert, in the way that the energy that they bring. They’re tone setters. J.J.’s a tone setter, brings the energy.

“Great talent, and every fiber of his being is about helping his team. And it’s just like Justin. Justin is a perfectionist, as well. Him and J.J. are the same that way. They want to be good; they want to be great, and it’s not in a self promotion way that they want to be good for themselves. They want to be great for their teammates.

“In great hands. J.J. has attacked his rehab the entire last six, seven months, and I can guarantee Vikings fans that he is up and at it already today, attacking the day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. And I love him. I’m not gonna love playing against him. We’re gonna be playing the Vikings this year.”

Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham, a top-five pick in mock drafts, was asked if there’s a play or two that shows who he is as a player. He responded with a full game.

“I mean, I feel like just rolling that Ohio State film,” Graham said. “That’s all you need to see, really.”

Graham said this is what he wants NFL teams to know about him:

“Just how hard I work,” the Michigan standout said. “No off the field stuff; I’m all about business. No one’s really concerned about that. I’m not a mysterious guy. You don’t need to look deep into me to find out about me. Everything is out there. I’ve got nothing to hide.”

Some notes from Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant’s session with the media:

Michigan and Rutgers will do battle Thursday night in Ann Arbor. The theme for the crowd is Pool(e) Party.

Quote Of The Day

“I feel like if you watch the tape, I was dominating every play. I don’t know kinda what their game plan was — it was to run at me and KG — but I didn’t think that was best for them. We kinda shut them down, and I feel like that was one of my most dominant games.”
