Marshall and the Michigan team are four practices into spring ball, and they’ve been fired up to be back on the field.

“Yeah, there’s nothing like coming out here for spring,” Marshall said. “It’s my first spring because I didn’t enroll early, but it’s been great so far, just to be around the guys and see the progress we picked up from the end of last season is great.”

The running back room has a strong mindset this spring, having brought back Marshall and added Haynes from Alabama after losing its two top players from a season ago.

“I would say we’re just ready to compete,” Marshall said. “I’m excited for the challenge of having so many good backs in that room. We go in there, and we want to compete every day, but we’re also gonna learn from each other because everybody brings something different to our team. It’s a really good mindset to see all that.”

Marshall enjoyed a 100 yard performance in the Dec. 31 ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama, helping jump start his sophomore campaign.

“Having that game, it gave me confidence to now lead this team,” Marshall said. “Knowing the offense, knowing the guys that are around me … to take charge a little bit. I want to win a natty, so making sure everybody is on that same page to bring a natty back to Michigan.”

Marshall ran hard and took huge hits against Alabama, so having other backs get carries will be crucial throughout an entire season.

“I’d love to do that every game,” Marshall said with a smile. “It’s not ideal, but if that’s what it comes to, yes. But that’s why you bring another great back in, and we have guys that can play capable minutes, and that’s a testament to [the coaching staff], getting guys ready to all be able to play. There’s no drop off in that room.”

Michigan will end the spring with an April 19 spring game at The Big House.
