Michigan Wolverines football has been intent on bolstering the offensive line and has done so with another addition out of the NCAA transfer portal. Division-II Ferris State offensive line transfer Lawrence Hattar announced Sunday afternoon that he’s committed to Michigan.

Hattar chose Michigan over fellow contenders Pittsburgh, Kansas State, North Carolina and others.

The 6-foot-5, 335-pounder spent four seasons at Ferris State, appearing in 27 total games, and has one year of eligibility remaining.

Michigan has multiple connections to Ferris State, which has established itself as a powerhouse in Division II. Hattar played for head coach Tony Annese, who worked with U-M tight ends coach Steve Casula and defensive line coach Lou Esposito at Ferris State last decade.

Hattar, who played left guard, helped Ferris State (Big Rapids, Mich.) win the 2024 national championship, with the Bulldogs beating Valdosta State, 49-14, in the title game in McKinney, Texas. The Bulldogs have now won the title in two of the last three seasons, including in 2022 when Hattar was a redshirt freshman.

Hattar played in 15 games in 2024, 10 in 2023 and two in 2022.

The Livonia, Mich., native was a first-team All-American in 2024, according to the AFCA. He was also tabbed as a first-team All-American and a member of the Elite 100 Team by D2Football.com. He was also recognized as first-team all-conference in the GLIAC.

Hattar is one of two offensive linemen to transfer to Michigan since the portal opened in December, joining Cal Poly’s Brady Norton, who has experience as both a guard and tackle and has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Hattar is the 10th transfer commit for Michigan ahead of the 2025 campaign, joining Norton, defensive tackle Tré Williams (Clemson), quarterback Mikey Keene (Fresno State), running back Justice Haynes (Alabama), linebacker Troy Bowles (Georgia), wide receiver Donaven McCulley (Indiana), cornerback Tevis Metcalf (Arkansas), safety TJ Metcalf (Arkansas) and defensive tackle Damon Payne Jr. (Alabama).
