Former Stanford offensive lineman Myles Hinton, younger brother of former Michigan defensive tackle Christopher Hinton, has committed to the Wolverines out of the transfer portal. Hinton announced the news on social media Saturday evening. The John’s Creek, Ga., native has two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-7, 320-pounder announced his intentions to transfer Dec. 2 following the Cardinal’s 3-9 season. Head coach David Shaw was let go, before a flood of Stanford players decided to transfer.

Hinton considered Michigan in his original recruitment, before choosing Stanford. Christopher Hinton played with the Wolverines from 2019-21. Their father, Christopher Hinton Sr., is a former NFL offensive tackle who’s in the Indianapolis Colts Ring of Honor. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, a former Colts quarterback, is as well.

Hinton was named Stanford’s Most Outstanding Freshman in 2020, playing in five games off the bench at right tackle. He followed that up by starting nine of 12 contests at the position in 2021. He dealt with an injury during the middle of the 2022 campaign. He opened seven outings and allowed 5 pressures and 2 sacks on the season.

According to PFF, Hinton has given up 28 pressures and 6 sacks during his career. His career-best overall PFF grade for a season came in 2022 (61.6).

A four-star recruit in the 2020 class, Hinton was ranked as the No. 33 overall player and third-best offensive tackle in the nation, per the On3 Consensus.

Michigan has now added three transfers since the Dec. 5 open to the portal, including two on the offensive line. Hinton joins former Arizona State starter LaDarius Henderson on the Wolverines’ offensive line, which has won two straight Joe Moore Awards. The Maize and Blue also reeled in former Nebraska linebacker Ernest Hausmann.

The Wolverines had success with a portal offensive lineman this season in graduate center Olusegun Oluwatimi. He joined the team from Virginia, has been named alternate captain and won both the Rimington Trophy (nation’s top center) and Outland Trophy (best interior lineman on either side of the ball).

Michigan is 13-0 and chasing its 12th ever national title, set to take on TCU in the College Football Semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl Dec. 31 (Glendale, Ariz.). The Wolverines have won two straight Big Ten championships and, along with Georgia, are one of two teams to make each of the last two College Football Playoffs.
