Michigan press conference notes
• Michigan’s offensive coordinator discussed sophomore quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s first full game played at the college level. He was efficient against Maryland, going 18 for 26 passing for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns, but he also made some mistakes, putting the ball on the ground a couple times, nearly throwing an interception and missing on several deep balls. Weiss said they’re cleaning up mistakes, saying coaching is responsible for them, but that the Michigan staff is pleased with his performance.
• FOX analyst Joel Klatt was critical of Michigan’s play calling system that includes Weiss and co-coordinator Sherrone Moore calling plays. Weiss gave his response.
• Weiss discussed tight end Luke Schoonmaker, who had a career day against Maryland, and the plethora of weapons McCarthy has to throw or hand the ball off to.
