Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
While both are new to the staff in their current roles, it’s been a seamless transition — albeit in different ways — for each of Elston and Newsome. Elston came back to Ann Arbor after 12 seasons at Notre Dame … and while he was working for a rival, he knows Michigan as well as anybody. That has translated to his efforts on the recruiting trail — where he serves as the staff’s recruiting coordinator and has an edge in that he can discuss his experience at Michigan and everything about the university.
Newsome is in a similar boat. While he’s in a new role, he was already working with the players in Ann Arbor and alongside most of the same coaches. He helped with tight ends and offensive line in the past, and while he’s only 25 years old, he said he’s more than comfortable speaking up in meeting rooms. He’s gained the respect of both the players and coaches through the years, and it’s been a natural transition.
