Michigan lost its top six offensive linemen from last season, but Hinton has helped fill the void as a leader and a player.
“It’s awesome,” Hinton said of his role. “I feel like I can really pour into them and help them along their journey. Young [sophomore] tackle Evan Link, he’s behind me in the meeting room every time. So, we’re watching film, I’ll see a play, I’ll be like, ‘Link, you see that?’ It’s cool having those younger guys and filling that leadership role in the offensive line room.”
Hinton decided to return for another season at Michigan, and his mentality has been all about hard work.
“Just grinding,” Hinton said. “Just grinding. I feel like that’s kind of cliche, but it’s not much more to do. Just kinda keep the wheels churning, keep progressing, get stronger, faster, bigger, lean out. Just kind of honing the craft — hone the small details, that’s kind of the theme of this year, details, details, details.”

Hinton saw time at both tackle spots for Michigan last season but is playing left tackle right now during spring practices.
“I feel better, I feel more comfortable at left,” Hinton said. “I played left throughout high school, freshman year of college I played left. I switched to right sophomore year, and I always felt a little awkward pass setting-wise. But I feel comfortable, I feel back home … I’m back to where I feel I can do what I need to do.”
Hinton has slimmed down and wants to stay that way, after playing around 340 pounds last season at Michigan.
“I’m like high 320s, low 330s,” Hinton said. “I’m a little bit lighter than I was fall camp last year when you all saw me. I want to be here — no doubt about it. I don’t want to be in the 340s. That’s nothing I want to be at.”
