Michigan football OL Tristan Bounds enters NCAA transfer portal
Michigan Wolverines football just saw its offensive line room thin out. Senior center Raheem Anderson entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier Wednesday, and now senior offensive tackle Tristan Bounds has followed suit.
Bounds, who has one season of eligibility remaining, appeared in only seven games during his four-year career with the Wolverines.
Bounds made his announcement official on social media, releasing a statement.
“I want to give all glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Bounds wrote. “Without him, I would not be in the position I am today. I am so grateful for all the coaches and staff and the University of Michigan that have helped me grow into the person and player I am today. There was no group of guys I would rather spent four years with than my brothers here in Ann Arbor. With all that said, I will entering my name into the transfer portal for my remaining year of eligibility. Go Blue!”
The 6-foot-8, 305-pounder saw action in two contests this season, at Indiana Nov. 9 and against Northwestern Nov. 23. He logged one offensive snap on the season, which was a touchdown by running back Tavierre Dunlap, the first of the ball-carrier’s career. Bounds only recorded 41 offensive snaps in his career.
Bounds played in one game in 2023, three in 2022 and one in 2021.
He spent his career buried on Michigan’s offensive line depth chart, thus the lack of playing time. The Wolverines have seen multiple linemen head to the NFL and some others who might after this season.
The Wolverines’ offensive line struggled this season, too, under first-year position coach Grant Newsome, who got the job after Sherrone Moore was promoted to head coach. Michigan’s offense ranked tied 111th in points per game in 2024, putting up 22.3.

Michigan did have its best game of the season up front against Ohio State, though, winning 13-10 in part because the Wolverines produced 172 rushing yards.
“The O-line played great when they needed to,” Moore said. “They got some real good push and we kind of hammered them.”
A Wallingford (Ct.) Choate Rosemary Hall product, Bounds was the No. 529 overall recruit and No. 48 offensive tackle in the nation. He attended Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, prior to enrolling at Choate Rosemary Hall.
Bounds leaves Michigan with three Big Ten championships and a national title, and he’s part of the winningest senior class in program history.
