What we’ve heard at each position group heading into the third week of camp: Offense

Moore said this week that all quarterbacks contending for the starting job have looked good, that there’s no ‘frontrunner’ and that he may wait until game week or the day of the first game to name a starter.

“Well, we’re entering Week 3 [of fall camp], and if memory serves me correct — and I’m not holding everyone to the standard that was [former Michigan starting quarterback] J.J. McCarthy — but two camps ago, when he really made his push to earn the starting job or at least extend the battle into the regular season, it was about this time where we started to see that sort of separation for him.

“Really, Week 3 of camp feels like separation week. It feels like across the board the week that guys really kinda put a stamp on their job, where you start to get a feel for … your practices over the next week, 10 days start to have a dress rehearsal feel to them.

“For me, at quarterback, I’m so interested in seeing where it goes from here. We’ll see what happens with [graduate] Jack Tuttle and his [injury], whatever he’s dealing with, we’ll see if he gets back into the mix and makes a push. We’ll see if [junior] Alex Orji can continue to kinda smooth out the peaks and valleys of his game. We’ll see if [senior] Davis Warren can continue to be the best pure passer of the three, based on the camp intel.

“So not surprised. Also, at this point, I think there’s gonna be a lot of mystery surrounding that. Even if two of these guys play in the Fresno State game, I could see this kind of being a lingering mystery that goes into Texas week, because there’s the chess match of making sure Texas is caught off guard, too.”
