Michigan could be without several key contributors Saturday, but the Maize and Blue are still favored to beat East Carolina by 36 points. The Wolverines’ depth will be tested at both wide receiver and in the secondary, but that will also allow for some under the radar players to step up and show what they can do. All in all, the hosts are excited to get back into The Big House for another Michigan football season.

“I’m excited,” Balas said. “I’m excited to see some of the new guys, I am excited to see some of the new starters that are in there for some of the guys that are banged up. [Michigan sophomore safety] Keon Sabb is a guy that we’ve heard a ton about. I’m excited to see how he plays in there. [Graduate cornerback] Josh Wallace, as well, [junior cornerback] Ja’Den McBurrows, as well. These guys are all gonna get their opportunities, fellas,” Balas said.
“As we talk about this game and some of the guys that will emerge, it’s going to be an interesting test of how deep this football team is. Let’s be honest here, these first three games, there is a lot of off field juice — I guess it extends to on the field with [Michigan head coach Jim] Harbaugh’s suspension and some of the injuries. But the on-field stuff, it’s going to be all hands on deck with some of those injuries and other stuff that’s been going on. Couldn’t ask for a better three non conference cupcake games. I expect that they’ll win them pretty handily.”
