Martindale has interviewed with multiple NFL teams, and the three hosts weren’t surprised by the news that broke Tuesday that he was set to meet with the Falcons and Colts. Martindale, after all, was in the NFL for 20 years, including seven as a defensive coordinator, before joining the Michigan staff ahead of the 2024 campaign.

“Lot of experience overall in that league, between his two different stints in college football,” Sayfie said. “One year, does a really good job at Michigan overall and is an NFL guy. I think that no one is surprised that he’s getting interest. He’s obviously listening. We’ll see what comes of it.”
“In the column that I wrote just a few days ago when he started interviewing, I said this is no surprise at all to anybody who got The Wolverine football preview,” Balas chimed in. “He flat out told me in our exclusive, ‘If they back the Brinks truck up,’ I’m not gonna tell anybody I’m not gonna listen, and that included [head coach] Sherrone Moore and that included [athletic director] Warde Manuel when he accepted the job here.
“He said it would be foolish of me, especially when you’ve got NFL coordinators out there making $2 million more a year than he made at Michigan. He was still the highest defensive coordinator in the country. Maybe Michigan can bump that up if they want to keep him, which I think they absolutely should.”
