Pregame observations: Michigan football updates ahead of Penn State matchup

Michigan Wolverines football is set to take on Penn State Saturday afternoon at The Big House (noon ET on FOX). Follow along below for pregame updates from the Michigan Stadium press box.

Pregame updates: Michigan vs. Penn State

• 11:55 a.m. — The Michigan Marching Band has taken the field.

• 11:43 a.m. — The Michigan team is headed up the tunnel and to the locker room for the final time before kickoff. Official kick is set for 12:10 p.m. ET.

• 11:39 a.m. — Michigan sophomore cornerback Ja’Den McBurrows, who suffered a leg injury at the end of the 2021 season, is dressed and warming up.

• 11:26 a.m. — Michigan’s entire team is now on the field and going through dynamic stretching. Fans are filing in — most of them wearing maize.

• 11:10 a.m. — Michigan public address announcer Carl Grapentine makes his famous announcement that there is one hour until kickoff. More and more players are taking the field for dressed warmups.

• 10:59 a.m. — Michigan’s special teamers have taken the field, including a fully-dressed junior wideout Roman Wilson. As expected, he will play after missing last week’s game.

• 10:46 a.m. — Michigan running backs coach and run game coordinator Mike Hart is returning to the sideline today, one week after collapsing and suffering a seizure at Indiana.

• 10:33 a.m. — Michigan senior quarterback Cade McNamara is on the field and helping his teammates out during warmups, but is not in cleats himself. It’s still a positive sign after the backup has missed the last three contests with a leg injury he suffered versus UConn. He did not make trips to Iowa or Indiana.

• 10:31 a.m. — Michigan junior wide receiver Roman Wilson is warming up ahead of Saturday’s game. He did not make the trip to Indiana last week after taking a hart hit to the head the prior game against Iowa.

• 10:17 a.m. — As reported this week, Michigan is wearing blue uniforms with blue pants, marking just the ninth time in program history in which the Maize and Blue have sported blue bottoms. They’re 4-0 at home and 7-1 overall, including a home victory over Penn State in 2014.

• 10:10 a.m. — Some Michigan and Penn State players have taken the field for early warmups in sweatpants and sweatshirts.

Series Facts: This will be the 26th meeting between Michigan and Penn State. The Wolverines hold a 15-10 advantage in the all-time series, including an 8-4 record at Michigan Stadium. Michigan has won three of the last four meetings with PSU at The Big House, the most recent being a 27-17 win during the 2020 COVID season. Last season, U-M defeated PSU 21-17 in State College, Pa.

Betting line

Michigan is a 7-point favorite over Penn State with the over/under set at 49 points.

The Wolverines are 3-3 against the spread this season, while the Nittany Lions are 3-2. The total has gone under in five of U-M’s six contests this year (the other was a push) and the total has gone over in three of PSU’s five tilts.

Weather.com projects it to be 47 degrees and partly cloudy with a zero-percent chance of precipitation and 15 MPH winds out of the west at kickoff. It’s expected to warm up to 52 degrees by 4 p.m. ET.

For tailgating purposes, it’ll be 41 degrees and mostly sunny at 8 a.m.
