Michigan’s offense struggled early on, and Moore met with the offensive line after a second-quarter possession. He discussed his message.

“I can’t really say exactly what I said. If you get my drift,” Moore said with a laugh. “But it was really the message just was we’re not operating to the standard that we needed to. Especially the offensive line, the precedent we set wearing that helmet; wearing that uniform. There’s a standard, and I didn’t feel like we were upholding that standard. Just challenged them to do that at the highest level. You’re in the biggest game of the year right now, so it was our job to evoke the standard. It starts up front. That was the message to them, and they responded.”

Michigan senior quarterback Davis Warren got his fourth start of the season and first since September. Moore was pleased with what he got out of the former walk-on.

“I thought Davis played well,” Moore noted. “I think in the first half he was like 10 of 11 and then ended up being like 13 of 19. So played well. Did some really good things. Missed a couple passes he wants to have back, but my message to him was really just fight on. Forget it and drive on if he made a mistake, just keep pushing. I thought he did that.

“Thought it worked well. At first it was a little slow and the first quarter, really first couple of drives to the half didn’t really go the way we wanted to. That’s when the challenge was sent to the O-line. I thought he was doing a good job with his job, too. I thought the flow with him and [junior] Alex [Orji] was really good. Alex, I think he had like 64 yards rushing, definitely gave us a boost offensively. They try to play a lot more hats in the box and plus the number with the quarterbacks is really good. I thought both of those guys did a really good job.”

There was a skirmish at midfield, with Michigan and Michigan State players shoving. Moore wasn’t happy to see his players involved.

“I told the team it was unacceptable regardless what happened and how it started,” Moore explained. “There’s guys chirping at us, and us responding. A guy head butted [junior tight end] Colston [Loveland] at the end. Our job is to represent this university is to not respond to that. To let the refs handle that. It’s something we’ll handle internally and make sure we take care of. But that’s not Michigan football. That’s not who we are.”
