Notes from Sherrone Moore press conference
• Michigan hasn’t had any long-term injuries suffered during fall camp.
• Moore will name Michigan’s starting quarterback to the public on game week. The team will know beforehand.
• On the criteria for naming a starting signal-caller: “Whoever the starting quarterback is, it’s to raise the level of the team. For [freshman Bryce Underwood], for [sophomore] Jadyn Davis, for [graduate] Jake Garcia, Mikey Keene — to make sure that they put themselves in position that they’re the best version of a quarterback they can be for Michigan football. And be leaders of the offense. Obviously, we always talk about the offense and team is led by the offensive line, but the quarterback has to be the captain of that room, that offense. Whoever that is, that’s who I want them to be.”
• Keene, a Fresno State transfer who missed spring with injury, is participating in practice but limited. Moore elaborated in this story.
• Michigan is in a “really good place,” with the head coach especially pleased with the way his team has focused on the motto ‘TNT’ — “today, not tomorrow,” which originated from team director of character development Robby Emery.

• Michigan is starting to see separation in position battles, but there will be an intense four-day stretch beginning after today’s off day that will accelerate that process. Those practices will be very physical.
• During Saturday’s scrimmage, Moore learned that he “loves this team.” He said he observed they have “passion, energy” and that they’ll “be explosive on both sides of the ball” and a “physical” bunch. He told the team how good he thinks they can be.
• Moore learned a lot during his first season as head coach. He said last year there were things he thought he knew but didn’t, such as scheduling for fall camp. For example, he sat down with the strength staff and planned out the schedule three months in advance this year.
• Graduate safety Rod Moore is “pushing” as he works back from knee injuries. Moore has been in walkthroughs and will soon slowly start to get into practice. He will play “sooner than later,” Moore said.
