Michigan graduate running back Kalel Mullings has forced 3 missed tackles in the last four games, including none in the last two, after that number was 26 in the first five outings. Moore said part of the issues — blocking — isn’t Mullings’ fault.

“On normal downs, you gotta be better,” Moore said. “There’s somebody right in his face right now; it’s hard to make the guy miss. He did a really good job of getting the ball back to the line of scrimmage if we needed him to and progressing. So for us, we just gotta be better as a team.”

Moore was asked to assess how the Michigan coaching staff did preparing the team for the game against Oregon, which resulted in a 38-17 loss to the No. 1 team in the nation in both major polls.

“Yeah, you saw two different halves,” Moore noted. “You saw the first half where it didn’t feel like there was enough energy, enough excitement. I thought the team was prepared and mentally ready to play. We just didn’t execute.

“But the second half, I felt like we came out … what you saw was a testament to what the culture is. Guys never quit, our players kept fighting all the way to the end. We had many chances to make it a one score game, had a possible pick. I thought it was a great call by [defensive coordinator] Wink [Martindale] with the alignment and movement, giving them a show of one look and giving another. Almost created a pick. And then had a chance to get down in the red zone and score a touchdown, but credit to them. They’re a good football team. So credit to them as well.”

He was later asked about how he’d assess the coaching operation through nine games of Michigan’s season.

“I think we just gotta continue to get better,” Moore said. “We gotta find ways to get better in every way and put guys in the best position. We are where we are with our record, but we got a chance to go fight and go win some more games, so that’s the goal.”
