Michigan Wolverines football running back Benjamin Hall plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he told On3. He spent two seasons plus this spring in Ann Arbor but will look for a new home once the portal opens Wednesday (April 16).

The 5-foot-11, 235-pound Acworth, Ga., native redshirted as a freshman in 2023, appeared in eight contests in 2024 and has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Hall appeared in 11 games during his two-year Michigan career, rushing 28 times for 113 yards (4 yards per carry) and no touchdowns. He also hauled in 4 catches for 12 yards.

Michigan has two running backs likely ahead of Hall on the depth chart in junior Justice Haynes, an Alabama transfer who joined the team this semester, and sophomore Jordan Marshall, who had a breakout, 100-yard performance in the Dec. 31 ReliaQuest Bowl against the Crimson Tide to cap off last season.

Hall commented on Haynes’ addition in an interview with Michigan media last Friday.

“He’s been a great addition to the room,” Hall said. “We got a really deep room full of guys that can go. It’s everyone’s job to do their best to go out there and make plays, do their best to stand out.”

Hall was listed on Michigan’s 2024 roster at 235 pounds, but he revealed earlier this month he slimmed down to 220.

“Just been working on getting better at ball and trying to be the best I can be for this team,” Hall said last Friday.

Michigan has two spring practices remaining before Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage at The Big House. The game will air on Big Ten Network on tape delay eight days later, April 27, after the transfer portal closes.

Hall saw action in eight tilts in 2024, rushing 13 times for 44 yards. He played in three games as a freshman in 2023, racking up 69 yards on 15 carries.

Hall was a pleasant surprise of Michigan’s 2023 spring game, rushing 13 times for 96 yards (7.4 yards per carry) with a 31-yard long and 1 touchdown. Afterward, then-position coach Mike Hart said Hall had a chance to be “special” down the road. He was buried on the depth chart behind Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings during his two seasons at Michigan, however. Corum is a member of the Los Angeles Rams, and the other two are expected to be drafted to the NFL this spring.

A Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb product, Hall was a three-star recruit and the nation’s No. 1,023 player in the 2023 class.
