Recruitment
Michigan had to fend off a late push from Florida, but Holly is officially a Wolverine. Ole Miss, Georgia and Texas A&M were all primary contenders before he made his pledge in the summer, too. Holly committed to Michigan after an official visit this summer, and defensive line coach Lou Esposito is a big reason why. Esposito established a relationship with Holly during his short stint at Memphis, and that carried over to Michigan. Esposito went down to Georgia to see Holly during the spring evaluation period, extended an offer and made him a priority. Esposito and Holly also both happen to be from New Jersey, so the two were able to connect on a personal level about that. It was a big win for Esposito to go into Georgia and pluck a four-star.
He said it
“I get the best of both at Michigan. Michigan offers one of the best educations at any public school in the country. Then I get to play for great coaches and with great players.”

They said it
“Julius Holly is an athletic EDGE defender,” Power said. “We’ve seen a bit of improvement over the last year-plus. I got to see him in person at the Under Armour Atlanta camp. He tested as a plus athlete at that event, running an electronic 4.71 40. He made great strides physically over the course of the last year. He’s put on over 25 pounds while increasing his athleticism. Physically, the arrow is pointing up. You can see that with his play on the field as a junior. He primarily plays as a stand-up pass rusher at Alpharetta and backs up the combine athleticism on Friday nights.”

Scouting report
When you’re talking about a pure speed rusher who plays with requisite strength against the run, especially as a stand-up outside linebacker, I think that’s what you are looking at in terms of skillset and fit within Michigan’s defense. He’s a guy who has made a nice ascent here and has continued to develop over the last year.
