Michigan Wolverines football hosted dozens of 2023 and 2024 recruits for its annual BBQ at The Big House, and early returns indicate that it was a smashing success on a number of fronts. Elite 2024 Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day quarterback Jadyn Davis was the headliner, but the Wolverines also made waves with other top prospects.

“What a day in The Big House!” Michigan Director of Recruiting Operations Albert Karschnia wrote on Twitter. “Unbelievable level of talent and character on campus! Great to spend time with so many incredible families who we look forward to welcoming back to Ann Arbor soon!”

Here, we’ve rounded up the top sights and sounds from the weekend.

Davis took his first Michigan visit in early June, and quickly decided he’d return for the BBQ. This time, he brought numerous family members, who snapped a picture with Jim Harbaugh in the head coach’s office.

The tight bond between Davis and Harbaugh, and the elite signal-caller and Michigan quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Matt Weiss, has been well-documented. He also loves what Michigan offers on and off the field.

“Michigan is definitely going to be on my top schools list,” Davis told TheWolverine.com last month. “The balance of education and football stands out. You can’t really beat the business school or the history of their football.”

Ahead of the BBQ, TheWolverine.com’s EJ Holland placed an expert prediction for Michigan to land Davis. The Maize and Blue are the leader on On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 79.4 percent. Georgia (11.2 percent) and Clemson (1.5) are also in the mix.

Per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Davis stands as the 13th-best prospect and second-highest rated quarterback in 2024.

Davis didn’t just bring his family members, either. In fact, it was Michigan that invited two of his teammates and wide receivers, 2024 three-stars Jordan Shipp and Channing Goodwin. Holland has a prediction placed for the Wolverines to land Goodwin, who’s a legacy recruit and the son of former offensive lineman Jonathan Goodwin.

Life on the EDGE

Michigan has two high-level four-star EDGE recruits committed in 2023 — Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic’s Collins Acheampong and Colleyville (Texas) Covenant Christian’s Enow Etta. The two have developed a strong relationship over the last several months. Late Saturday night, they both hit their hotel gym for a workout ahead of the BBQ.

Michigan’s 2023 class shows out

Michigan’s No. 1 priority at the BBQ is to reel in top recruits like Davis, but it’s not the only goal. The Wolverines already have 13 commitments in 2023, 11 of whom were at The Big House this weekend, including brand-new four-star offensive tackle pledge Evan Link, who took a covert trip over the weekend and made his announcement Monday morning.

The event provided the class an opportunity to develop their bond, plus try to add others, like Link, to the fold.

The following 2023 Michigan commits were at the BBQ: Link, Etta, Acheampong, defensive tackle Brooks Bahr, linebacker Semaj Bridgeman, running back Cole Cabana, running back Benjamin Hall, offensive lineman Amir Herring, wide receiver Fredrick Moore, wide receiver Semaj Morgan, kicker Adam Samaha and tight end Deakon Tonielli.

Michigan extends two offers

Michigan made a special day even better for two recruits in particular, with the Wolverines offering both 2023 Solana Beach (Calif.) Santa Fe Christian three-star tight end Zack Marshall and 2024 Ponte Vedra (Fla.) Beach four-star interior offensive lineman Jake Guarnera.
