Bellamy was asked about Michigan freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood, and he included sophomore signal-caller Jadyn Davis in his answer. Those two are competing at quarterback this spring, taking all the reps.

“Bryce and Jadyn — Jadyn looks good,” Bellamy said. “They both are doing some really good things out there. Bryce is just like the receivers in the sense of he’s learning.

“You see the physical talent, ball placement, arm strength, mobility — you see all that stuff, and you get excited because you know what can be, once he gets a full grasp of the offense. The same thing with Jadyn Davis. You see like, ‘Man, OK, this is why we went to Charlotte and got him out of Charlotte.’

“Those guys are competing and learning and have a great coach in [quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator] Coach [Chip] Lindsey leading the way. It’s been awesome watching their development, both guys.”

Morgan was asked about Michigan freshman cornerback Shamari Earls, who enrolled early and has been with the team this semester.

“I think Shamari has done a good job of getting here in January and trying to put it all together,” Morgan said. “He didn’t play his senior season, got hurt in preseason as a senior, so it’s been a lot on him. He’s been pushing through. He’s a tough kid. His parents were formerly in the military, both of them. He’s a pleaser, asks all the right questions, trying to get better each and every day.

“I think it’s a lot on Shamari. He has a lot of confidence in himself, but he also doesn’t want to let anybody down, doesn’t want to let us down, doesn’t want to let the head coach down, doesn’t want to let Michigan down. He just puts a lot of pressure on himself, which is a good trait if he can balance it all.

“Shamari is a tall, long guy. I think Michigan every year for the last couple years has had at least one or two guys that way. The combination of being over 6-1, around 200 pounds and also ran in the 10s in high school [in the 100-meter dash] allows him to be a unique player. He’s kinda like Bambi sometimes, because he’s so long and he has to figure it out, but I’m really excited about him.”
