Michigan football roster tracker: Who's staying, who's coming, who's going, how many years each Wolverine has left
It’s the offseason for Michigan Wolverines football, meaning there’s roster news to track. The transfer portal closed Jan. 18 and the NFL Draft declaration deadline has passed, but the portal will reopen May 1 and players who are already in can still be recruited and commit to schools.
Below, we’ll track the following:
• Michigan scholarship players that have announced they’re staying with the program for the 2023 season
• Players who have committed to Michigan out of the transfer portal
• Wolverines who have announced they’re leaving to the NFL Draft or transfer portal
• Returning players and how many years of eligibility each has remaining
Who’s staying
• Senior WR Cornelius Johnson: He announced Jan. 15 his intentions to return for another season at Michigan. Johnson led the Wolverines with 6 touchdown catches and ranked second on the team with 499 receiving yards on 32 grabs in 2022.

• Junior DL Kris Jenkins: He announced Jan. 16 that he will return for his senior season. finished the 2022 campaign fifth on the team with 54 tackles, adding 3.5 stops for loss, 2 sacks and 2 quarterback hurries.
• Graduate LB Michael Barrett: He announced Jan. 15 that he’ll return for his sixth season at Michigan. He appeared in 14 games with 13 starts in 2022, ranking second on the team with 72 total tackles, adding 2 stops for loss, 1 sack and 2 interceptions.
• Junior OL Zak Zinter: He decided to forgo the NFL Draft and return to Michigan for his senior season, making his announcement Jan. 15, after earning first-team All-Big Ten honors as the Wolverines’ starting right guard in 2022.

• Senior OL Trevor Keegan: Michigan’s starting left guard announced Jan. 12 that he’ll come back for his fifth season. He’s a two-time All-Big Ten standout, including having earned first-team honors by the coaches in 2022.

• Junior RB Blake Corum: He revealed he’ll stay at Michigan for his senior season during a Jan. 9 appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. He rushed for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns in 12 games during the 2022 campaign, suffering a season-ending knee injury that held him out of the final two outings.

• Senior DB Mike Sainristil: He announced Dec. 4 that he’ll return for his final year of eligibility. He’s been a key piece for the Wolverines’ defense after switching over from wide receiver to nickel. He’s fourth on the team with 51 tackles, including 5.5 for loss and 2 sacks, and second with 7 pass breakups.

Who’s coming (transfer portal)
• Junior TE AJ Barner (Indiana): He committed to Michigan Dec. 20, after three seasons with the Hoosiers. He hauled in 28 receptions for 199 yards and 3 touchdowns in 10 games during the 2022 campaign. He has two years of eligibility left.

• Graduate QB Jack Tuttle (Indiana): He started four career games and threw for 819 yards and 4 touchdowns during his Indiana career. He pledged to Michigan Dec. 20. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

• Senior C Drake Nugent (Stanford): He started 24 consecutive games for the Cardinal and earned an All-Pac-12 honorable mention nod this past season. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

• Sophomore EDGE Josaiah Stewart (Coastal Carolina): The 6-2, 230-pounder and former high school teammate of Sainristil committed to Michigan Dec. 18. He recorded 41 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and 5 quarterback hurries in 2022.

• Junior OL Myles Hinton (Stanford): The younger brother of former Michigan defensive tackle Christopher Hinton pledged to the Wolverines Dec. 17. He started 19 of his 24 games over three seasons with Stanford and has two years of eligibility remaining.

• Freshman LB Ernest Hausmann (Nebraska): The 6-2, 220-pounder was a Michigan recruit out of high school but chose the Cornhuskers. He announced his commitment to the Maize and Blue out of the portal Dec. 15, though, after notching 54 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery with Nebraska in 2022.

• Senior OL LaDarius Henderson (Arizona State): The 6-5, 310-pounder committed to Michigan Dec. 6 after entering the transfer portal one day earlier. He started 29 career games and played 1,802 career offensive snaps (1,225 at guard, 574 at tackle) in three seasons with the Sun Devils. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Who’s going (transfer portal)
• Graduate EDGE Eyabi Okie: His Michigan career will last only one season, with the former Alabama, Houston and UT Martin player announcing he’ll enter the transfer portal Jan. 12. He committed to Charlotte to play for former Michigan associate head coach Biff Poggi.

• Sophomore WR Andel Anthony: In a somewhat surprising move given that opportunity will open up in the Michigan receiver room next season, Anthony entered the portal Jan. 4. He recorded 19 receptions for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns in two seasons with the Wolverines, including only 7 grabs for 80 yards and a score in 2022. He pledged to Oklahoma.

• Graduate EDGE Taylor Upshaw: He will spend his sixth and final collegiate season elsewhere, entering the portal Jan. 3. He appeared in 38 career games with 2 starts for Michigan. He made 12 tackles, including 4.5 stops for loss and 2 sacks, 1 interception and 1 quarterback hurry in 2022, playing 272 defensive snaps. He committed to Colorado.

• Graduate EDGE Julius Welschof: He played in 34 outings during his five-year career at Michigan and has chosen to move on, entering the portal Jan. 3. He made 6 tackles in 14 outings in 2022, making a minimal impact.

• Freshman LB Deuce Spurlock: He redshirted in 2022, playing in just two games and making 3 tackles, before entering the portal Jan. 2. Spurlock impressed in fall camp practices but will look to make an impact elsewhere. He pledged to Florida.

• Graduate QB Alan Bowman: He entered the portal Dec. 15 but stayed with the Wolverines through the end of the 2022 season. He completed just 8 passes during his two years with Michigan, after transferring in from Texas Tech. He’s now at Oklahoma State.

• Sophomore DT George Rooks: He announced his departure Dec. 12, becoming the fourth Michigan player to enter the portal. He played in nine career games, totaling 1 tackle, over two seasons in Ann Arbor. He pledged to Boston College Dec. 20.

• Sophomore TE Louis Hansen: He entered the portal Dec. 5, after playing in just three games over two seasons with the Maize and Blue. He committed to UConn Dec. 26.

• Senior TE Erick All: He became Michigan’s second team captain to announce his intentions to transfer when he did so Dec. 5. He played in two games before suffering a season-ending back injury this season, after hauling in 38 passes for 437 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2021. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining and chose Iowa Dec. 14.

• Senior QB Cade McNamara: The team captain suffered a season-ending injury Sept. 17 against UConn, underwent surgery and was away from the team rehabbing for weeks. He entered the portal Nov. 28 and committed to Big Ten foe Iowa days later.

Who’s going (NFL Draft)
• Graduate CB Gemon Green: He announced Jan. 11 that he’s off to the NFL Draft, forgoing his final season of eligibility. Green made 20 tackles and 4 pass breakups in 13 games this past season

• Senior DT Mazi Smith: He decided to enter the NFL Draft Jan. 9, after starring on Michigan’s defensive line in 2022. He totaled 48 tackles, 2.5 stops for loss and a half-sack during his final season in a winged helmet.

• Senior EDGE Mike Morris: He announced Jan. 9 that he’ll head to the NFL, after leading Michigan and ranking second in the Big Ten with 7.5 sacks in 2022.

• Senior CB DJ Turner: He declared for the NFL Draft Jan. 6, after starting 23 career games at Michigan. He recorded 36 tackles, including 1 for loss, 1 interception, a team-high 10 pass breakups, 1 quarterback hurry and 1 fumble recovery in 2022.
• Graduate WR Ronnie Bell: He received an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, per Jim Harbaugh, who said he believes he’ll leave for the NFL after the 2022 season. Bell has one year of eligibility remaining and hasn’t made an official announcement.
• Graduate TE Luke Schoonmaker: He accepted his invite to the East-West Shrine Bowl, which will be played Feb. 3 in Las Vegas. Schoonmaker has one year of eligibility left.
• Graduate LT Ryan Hayes: He could take a sixth season but has accepted an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, co-offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore revealed.
