Donovan Edwards, Blake Corum make up 'electric' duo: 'Both of us are gonna win the Heisman and split it'
Michigan Wolverines football has two running backs who are considered Heisman Trophy contenders in senior Blake Corum and junior Donovan Edwards. The former finished seventh in the award’s voting even after missing most of the final four games with a season-ending knee injury, while the latter picked up the slack to the tune of 520 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns in the final three games of the 2022 campaign.
Corum, who rushed for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, stunned the college football world by returning for “one more year” at Michigan. He’s rehabbing after undergoing surgery on his meniscus and MCL in early December, and should be fully healthy by June. He has “unfinished business” both on the field and in the classroom and community, he said. Winning the national championship — something Michigan hasn’t achieved since 1997 despite making the CFP each of the last two seasons — is on the top of his mind.
“We have to go get it … we have to go win the national championship,” Corum said at Valiant Management’s pep rally before Michigan’s spring game. “I’m coming back to win it all.
“Just picking up where I left off. Be a better leader — maybe that’s what’s going to get us over that hump. Really just bringing my guys together.”

Edwards, too, has lofty goals. He’s stated he wants to split carries with Corum this season, enjoy immense success and then head to the NFL after his third year at Michigan. The two have a strong bond, though, and are happy for each other’s success. They’ll look to join forces to create a dynamic backfield.

“We got the best backfield in the country right now,” Edwards said at the same event. “You ain’t ever seen a backfield so electric as Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, so we’re bringing everything to the table.
“We love the Michigan fans, the Michigan program. Both of us are gonna win the Heisman. We’re gonna split it with each other. We’re both winning the Doak Walker Award, too, and we’re gonna split that as well.”
“Walter Camp. We’re gonna split that one, as well,” Corum chimed in. “We’re gonna win them all.”
Added Edwards: “We’re gonna show out for y’all, show out for each other — and we’re both going first round.”
Both Michigan running backs sat out Saturday’s spring game, with Edwards recovering from an offseason surgery on his hand.
