Jesse Minter named Broyles Award semifinalist, Michigan on Joe Moore Award semifinalist list
First-year defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has been named as a nominee for the Broyles Award, handed out annually to the nation’s top assistant, one of 51 to make the cut.
Minter’s unit leads the nation in scoring defense (11.2 points per game), total defense (232.8 yards per outing) and rushing defense (72.7 yards per contest). The Wolverines slot fourth in the country in pass defense, yielding just 160.1 yards per game, and second in pass defense efficiency, allowing 5.3 yards per attempt. They’ve allowed just 127 first downs, the fewest in the country.
Heading into the 2022 season, Michigan set the goal of becoming the first-ever back-to-back winner of the Joe Moore Award. That goal is still in play, with the award committee naming the Wolverines one of nine semifinalists for the honor, which is presented annually to the nation’s top offensive line. U-M is joined by Air Force, Illinois, Tennessee, Georgia, Oregon, Ole Miss, USC and UCLA.
Michigan is averaging 5.2 yards per carry (seventh nationally). The Wolverines have allowed only 12 sacks and 44 total tackles for loss.
