Michigan Wolverines football began spring practices Tuesday (March 18). They’ll run through the April 19 spring game at The Big House. The Maize and Blue updated their roster to kick things off, and here are some takeaways.

Roster size

Michigan has 111 players on its spring roster, with four transfers (offensive lineman Lawrence Hattar, kicker/punter Beckham Sunderland, wide receiver Anthony Simpson and long snapper Trent Middleton) expected to join the team this summer. Additionally, Michigan has 15 early enrollee freshmen with nine more slated to join the program after the spring.

College football teams are expected to have to get their rosters down to 105 players should the House v. NCAA settlement be approved April 7 as expected. Michigan is at 124 players now (the ones on the spring roster plus those expected to join the team) but will have until the season to thin it out.
