Michigan stands atop On3 team transfer portal rankings after five additions
Michigan Wolverines football has been as active as ever in the NCAA transfer portal, landing five prospects since the Dec. 5 open to the portal. The Maize and Blue now sit atop the On3 team transfer portal rankings, which factor in transfers in and out and how highly regarded each prospect is.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh and Co. have landed verbal commitments from offensive tackle LaDarius Henderson (Arizona State), linebacker Ernest Hausmann (Nebraska), offensive tackle Myles Hinton (Stanford), EDGE Josaiah Stewart (Coastal Carolina) and offensive center Drake Nugent (Nebraska).
Here’s how Michigan’s incoming transfers rank nationally:
Player | Overall Ranking | Position Ranking |
Drake Nugent | 37 | 2 (IOL) |
Josaiah Stewart | 38 | 3 (EDGE) |
LaDarius Henderson | 58 | 3 (IOL) |
Ernest Hausmann | 110 | 12 (LB) |
Myles Hinton | 136 | 8 (OT) |
Nugent and Stewart are rated by On3 as four-star transfers, while Henderson, Hausmann and Hinton are considered three-star prospects.
Michigan saw senior quarterback Cade McNamara (Iowa), senior tight end Erick All, sophomore tight end Louis Hansen (undecided), sophomore defensive lineman George Rooks (undecided) and graduate quarterback Alan Bowman (undecided) all depart the program to the portal. Rooks and Bowman are still on the roster but will leave after the season.

None of the five who are slated to leave Michigan made significant contributions this season, though McNamara and All are former starters. They were both shut down early in the year with season-ending injuries. McNamara lost the starting quarterback job to sophomore J.J. McCarthy.
Here’s how Michigan’s outgoing transfers rank nationally:
Player | Overall Ranking | Position Ranking |
Cade McNamara | 98 | 10 (QB) |
Erick All | 145 | 7 (TE) |
George Rooks | 289 | 9 (DL) |
Alan Bowman | — | 74 (QB) |
Louis Hansen | — | 13 (TE) |
Michigan is ahead of No. 2 Arizona State, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 USC, No. 6 TCU, No. 7 Florida State, No. 8 UCF, No. 9 Duke and No. 10 Minnesota.
Michigan standing atop the rankings isn’t just a numbers thing, either. Six of the other nine top 10 programs have as many or more commitments than the Maize and Blue, leading us to conclude that it has much more to do with quality than quantity. Michigan’s additions have an average national ranking of 75.8, and three of the five are tabbed as top five at their position. Only five programs in the country hold pledges from multiple four-star transfers, per On3.
