Biggest takeaways
Here were some of the biggest Michigan takeaways discussed on the podcast.
“It was kind of fun to hear when Ryan Day, Ohio State’s coach, said they’re calloused and a little bit scarred by [his team’s loss to Michigan in 2021],” Balas said on the show. “And you’re supposed to be, that’s the way you’re supposed to feel in this rivalry when you lose — and they hadn’t felt that in too long, frankly.

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
“My takeaway when speaking with the Michigan kids was how relaxed they were, and how relaxed Coach Jim Harbaugh was, and how good they think this team is going to be.
“There are really good veterans on the offensive line. There are holes to fill on defense, but the four seniors they brought are outstanding players, No. 1, No. 2 — outstanding leaders. When they were talking about the freshman and sophomore classes, you just realize how much talent is there. And everybody is sitting there like, ‘Oh, the sky is falling because we’re a little bit behind in 2023 recruiting,’ and I’m thinking about the next few years and thinking there is a lot of talent on this football team that you expected this to be with Jim Harbaugh at the helm when he was hired here. It’s exciting, and these guys look like they’re in great shape. They look like they have great camaraderie again.
“One other takeaway [is that] Cade McNamara is so confident. It’s interesting when he says, ‘I feel like it’s my team.’ It’s not a slam at J.J. McCarthy or anything else, but he feels like he’s the leader. And I was reading your report, Clayton, from Grand Rapids when we were at the Ford Museum and you went and saw them at East Grand Rapids … you said he kind of assumed that role as the leader, getting guys where they needed to be, and guys were looking for him. I’d be surprised, at this point, if he wasn’t a captain.”
