Arkansas DB transfers, brothers TJ Metcalf, Tevis Metcalf commit to Michigan football
Michigan Wolverines football has scored a pair of commitments Monday night, with Arkansas defensive back transfers and brothers TJ Metcalf and Tevis Metcalf making their pledges public. The duo visited U-M at the end of last week.
The duo are cousins with Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, who played college football at Mississippi, where their father, Tarrus Metcalf, also played.
TJ just wrapped up his sophomore season at Arkansas and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Tevis, meanwhile, has three years left after spending one in Fayetville.
TJ is the No. 131 overall player and 12th-best safety in the portal, per the On3 Industry Ranking. Tevis checks in No. 410 overall and No. 56 among cornerbacks.
A 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, TJ racked up 57 tackles, including 1 for loss, 7 pass breakups and 3 interceptions as a sophomore, appearing in 12 games with 11 starts for the 6-6 Razorbacks. He is one of 35 Power Conference safeties with 3 or more interceptions this season. He saw action in 12 outings as a freshman in 2023, posting 15 tackles.
Tevis played just 15 defensive snaps in two games as a freshman, but the 5-foot-10, 192-pounder did play in all 12 contests on special teams, featuring on the kick return, kick coverage and punt return units, among others.

Arkansas ranked 69th nationally in scoring defense and 66th in total defense. The Razorbacks were 32nd against the run and 108th versus the pass, in terms of yards allowed per game.
Both TJ and Tevis were three-star recruits, in the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes, respectively. They attended different high schools, with TJ going to Birmingham (Ala.) Pinson Valley and Tevis playing for Clay (Ala.) Chalkville.
The Wolverine’s EJ Holland saw Tevis Metcalf live in 2023 and wrote about him as an under the radar recruit that Michigan should’ve considered offering at the time.
“Metcalf is ranked in the 1000s as a three-star prospect,” Holland wrote. “However, he was clearly one of the best cornerbacks at the event. In fact, Metcalf was named DB MVP as he locked up some of the highest rated wide receiver recruits in the Southeast. Metcalf isn’t you typical tall, length corner at 5-foot-10, 178 pounds, but he has plenty of speed and plays with an attacking mentality. Michigan recruited his older brother, TJ, so there is already familiarity with the family. Metcalf holds offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Georgia Tech and a few others. He could be a major sleeper this cycle.”
