Newsstand: Michigan football to rock blue pants at Iowa?
Tweets Of The Day
A tweet by popular account Swanky Wolverine hints that Michigan will wear blue pants with its white road jerseys, along with the iconic winged helmet, of course. The Wolverines wore that combination in the Big Ten championship game against Iowa last season. Same with their first road game of the year at Wisconsin and final road contest at Maryland.
Michigan has only worn blue pants seven times in program history. The first occurrence came in a win over Penn State in 2014. The look was shelved until 2021, when Michigan wore blue pants in wins over Washington, Wisconsin, Maryland, Ohio State and Iowa and a loss to Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
Michigan and Iowa will do battle Saturday afternoon at noon ET on FOX at Kinnick Stadium, where the Maize and Blue haven’t won since escaping with a 23-20 overtime win in 2005.
Michigan linebacker Junior Colson notched a career-high 13 tackles last week.
Michigan’s turnover buffs have taken Wolverine nation by storm.
Miami had the turnover chain, a tradition that started in 2017 and took the college football world by storm, but new head coach Mario Cristobal put an end to it ahead of the 2022 campaign. Spin-offs such as Boise State’s turnover throne, Texas A&M’s turnover cane and Louisville’s turnover belt ensued. Now Michigan is in on the fun.

The Maize and Blue began taking turnover photos during the 2021 season. When they notched a takeaway, the entire defense ran to the sideline and snapped a picture. Those went up on the wall in Schembechler Hall. Now, there’s a new accessory that adds quite the flair (and some motivation to get the ball): Michigan’s turnover buffs.
‘Buffs’ are Cartier sunglasses that have buffalo horn frames. They were popularized in nearby Detroit, Michigan.
Local product and freshman cornerback Will Johnson came up with the idea and secured the buffs from Zeidman’s Jewelry and Loan.
Quote Of The Day
“I would just just want to just tell everybody that we’re trying to exceed last year. We’re not trying to replicate, we’re trying to exceed, because at the end of the day, we didn’t accomplish our goal, which was to win a national championship. We’re trying to do bigger and better things, and I think we’re on the road to do something great.”
