Michigan takes another two-score lead

On the back of Jordan Marshall, Michigan drove 47 yards in nine plays, ending up with a 37-yard field goal by Dominic Zvada, his fourth make of the game, plus an extra point. The Wolverines lead 19-10 with 7:21 to go.

Alex Orji throws interception on third down

Michigan hadn’t thrown an interception in nearly two full possessions with Alex Orji at quarterback, until it was 3rd and 13 from its own 39-yard line. Orji dropped back, rolled to his right and threw an interception to defensive back Zabien Brown. Alabama will take over at midfield just before the end of the third quarter.

Davis Warren injured

Michigan quarterback Davis Warren was sacked for a loss of 14 yards along the sideline and stayed down on the turf with an injury. He limped off with assistance and was brought to the medical tent. Alex Orji has replaced him.
Update on QB Davis Warren from Jason Avant on Michigan radio: “I think he’s gonna be done. They switched the helmets out. He ran on the sideline and then shook his head like ‘no,’ so I don’t think we’re gonna see him.”

Alabama scores just before half

Michigan pinned Alabama down at the 4-yard line on a Hudson Hollenbeck punt that was downed by Joe Taylor. Alabama faced 3rd and inches with 37 seconds to go, at which point Michigan called timeout. On 3rd down, Jalen Milroe kept the ball for a 41-yard gain. Then Milroe hit Germie Bernard for a 40-yard gain. The Wolverines held Alabama to a 24-yard field goal by Graham Nicholson, avoiding a total disaster.
Michigan leads 16-10 at halftime, and will get the ball to begin the second half.

Alabama gets on the board

The chaos subsided, with both teams exchanging two punts. Alabama finally went on a scoring drive, going 71 yards for a touchdown in four plays. Jalen Milroe is 6-of-9 for 58 yards and an interception but did hit Robbie Ouzts for a 25-yard touchdown down the right sideline. He was wide open and stumbled into the end zone.
Michigan leads 16-7 with 4:06 to go in the first half.

Michigan missed an opportunity to pour it on, but did get another three points with a 21-yard field goal by Dominic Zvada.

Michigan forces a third turnover

Jalen Milroe dropped back to pass and was looking deep on the first play of the following drive, and he fumbled again. Aamir Hall, a cornerback blitzing, forced it, and it was recovered by Cameron Brandt at the Alabama 6-yard line. Michigan has now started all four of its drives in Crimson Tide territory, including the last three in the red zone.

Michigan cashes in with touchdown off of Wesley Walker interception

On the second play of the next drive, Jalen Milroe threw out to his left in the wet conditions, and Wesley Walker came away with the interception after tipping the ball to himself.
Michigan took over at the Alabama 15-yard line, and on third down Davis Warren hit Fredrick Moore for his first career touchdown on a fade route from 13 yards out. The Wolverines lead 13-10 with 4:15 to go.

It started pouring rain during the media timeout after Michigan’s made field goal. Jalen Milroe promptly dropped the first snap of the drive, and it was recovered by Derrick Moore at the Alabama 19-yard line. The Wolverines have great field position again.
The Wolverines cashed in with a 30-yard field goal by Dominic Zvada to go up 6-0 with 5:52 to go in the first.

Michigan strikes first

Alabama picked up one first down before being stopped on fourth down via a sack by Derrick Moore. The Wolverines took over at the Alabama 44-yard line — great field position — and wound up with a 45-yard field goal by Dominic Zvada.
Michigan had to work to get back into field goal range, though, after a trick play fumble out of bounds for a loss of 13 yards.
Michigan leads 3-0 with 8:15 to go in the first quarter.

Michigan won the toss and chose to defer its choice to the second half. Alabama will receive to start the game.

Alabama won 17-14 in the 1997 Outback Bowl and in the two subsequent meetings: 41-14 in 2012 and 35-16 in the 2020 Citrus Bowl.
