Michigan ran out the clock after picking up a first down from an Alex Orji run, and the Wolverines have beaten Michigan State for the third straight season.

Michigan State drove down to the U-M 11-yard line and went for it on fourth down, trailing by seven points with two minutes to go. Aidan Chiles threw to the end zone, but it was incomplete, broken up by Quinten Johnson. Michigan gets the ball back at the 11-yard line.

Michigan went three-and-out following MSU’s touchdown to Nick Marsh. Tommy Doman’s shanked punt ended up at the 50-yard line. The Spartans trail 24-17 with 4:34 remaining.

Michigan State took over with 13:20 to play and capped off a seven-plus minute drive with a 20-yard touchdown from Aidan Chiles to Nick Marsh. Marsh caught it over the middle, made defenders miss and found the end zone.
The Spartan drive lasted 13 plays and went 75 yards.
Michigan leads 24-17 with 6:12 to go.

Donovan Edwards throws second career touchdown pass

Michigan running back Donovan Edwards threw a halfback pass for a 23-yard touchdown to Colston Loveland. Davis Warren hit Loveland for the two-point conversion, and the Maize and Blue now lead the in-state foe 24-10.
Edwards now has two touchdown passes in his career. He had a 75-yarder to Roman Wilson in the Big Ten championship game in 2021.

Michigan and Michigan State exchanged punts, and the Wolverines have the ball facing 1st and 10 at the MSU 42-yard line after a targeting call. MSU linebacker Jordan Turner is ejected from the game.

MSU got to the Michigan 26-yard line but was stuffed on a third-down run by Nate Carter. Kenneth Grant beat his man and was in the backfield immediately to blow it up for a loss of 2 yards. Jonathan Kim made a 46-yard field goal to put the Spartans down one possession again — 16-10.
A 30-yard pass from Aidan Chiles to Montorie Foster keyed the drive. That came on 3rd and 4. Zeke Berry was in man coverage on Foster.

Michigan threw a lot at Michigan State that drive, and most of it worked. The Wolverines used Alex Orji as a runner, Semaj Morgan as a wildcat quarterback and threw a big completion via a flea flicker.
Michigan drove 75 yards in 11 plays, capped off by a 2-yard touchdown run by Orji on third down and 1 .
The Wolverines lead 16-7 with 9:49 remaining in the third quarter.

Michigan senior EDGE Josaiah Stewart tracked down a rolling Aidan Chiles, forcing a fumble, which was recovered by defensive tackle Kenneth Grant at the MSU 34-yard line.
Davis Warren hit Donovan Edwards for a 15-yard gain, which put Michigan in comfortable field position for Dominic Zvada to hit a 37-yard field goal to give the Wolverines a 9-7 advantage.

Michigan leads 9-7 at halftime and gets the ball to start the second half.

Michigan successfully drove down the field on a two-minute-drill drive, with junior tight end Colston Loveland scoring a 10-yard touchdown from Davis Warren with 29 seconds remaining in the first half.
The Wolverines drove 64 yards in 10 plays. Holder Tommy Doman dropped the snap on the extra point, and Michigan’s try failed.
Michigan will get the ball to start the second half, but the Spartans will have some time before that.

Andrew Gentry down with injury

Michigan junior right tackle Andrew Gentry — who’s making his second career start — went down with an injury on second down. He was helped off the field, right to the locker room. Sophomore Evan Link is the replacement.
On punt two plays later, MSU long snapper Kaden Schickel went down with a non-contact injury.

Michigan is facing 3rd and 5 on its own 41-yard line with two minutes remaining in the first half.

MSU strikes first

Michigan went three-and-out on its first offensive possession, and Tommy Doman booted a 41-yard punt. The Spartans drove 62 yards in nine plays, scoring a touchdown on 4th and 1 from the 2-yard line with running back Nate Carter running up the middle.
MSU converted a key third and long with a run, fueling the drive, with Carter dashing 34 yards.
The Spartans lead 7-0 with 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Jonathan Kim misses field goal

MSU kicker Jonathan Kim was 15-of-16 on field goals entering today’s game, including having made a season-long 55-yard field goal last week against Iowa. He missed a 25-yarder to cap off MSU’s first drive of the game.
Michigan takes over at the 20-yard line with 6:52 remaining in the first quarter, still scoreless in Ann Arbor.
