Michigan enters Ohio State game No. 3 in College Football Playoff rankings
Georgia continues to lead the way as the No. 1 team in the land, followed by Ohio State at No. 2, U-M at No. 3 and TCU at No. 4. Two-loss LSU is No. 5, one-loss USC is No. 6, Alabama is No. 7, Clemson is No. 8 and Oregon No. 9.
Tennessee fell dramatically after a blowout loss at South Carolina, down to No. 10. The Volunteers only needed to win that game and against Vanderbilt to essentially seal a bid, but couldn’t get it done.
As is stands, Michigan and Ohio State are essentially playing a CFP quarterfinal game when the two teams meet Saturday in Columbus. Penn State (No. 11, 9-2) is the best win for both of these teams.
As of now, there are three potential bowl destinations for Michigan. Should the Wolverines make the playoff, they’ll head to either Atlanta for the Peach Bowl or Glendale, Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl. Both CFP semifinals are set for Dec. 31. Advancing through either of those would put them in Inglewood, California at SoFi Stadium on Jan. 9 for the national title game.
