Michigan senior gymnast Sierra Brooks was named the 2023 AAI Award winner, also known as the “Heisman Trophy” of women’s gymnastics. She’s the third U-M student-athlete of the winter sports season to be named the best athlete in their sport, joining hockey’s Adam Fantilli and wrestling’s Mason Parris.

More from a Michigan press release:

In the 31-year history of the award, Brooks is the fourth Michigan women’s gymnast to earn the honor. Natalie Wojcik won the award in 2022, Kylee Botterman received the award in 2011 and Beth Wymer received the honor in 1995.

Brooks and Wojcik are just the third pair of teammates to win the award in back-to-back years as Alabama had two-consecutive winners in 1985-86 and Georgia had back-to-back winners in 1998-99.

U-M offensive line commit Ben Roebuck is an Ohio native. On a recent visit to The Big House, he and fellow offensive line pledge Luke Hamilton (another Ohio native) snapped a picture with Roebuck waving the state of Ohio flag on the Michigan Stadium field.

2025 five-star shooting guard Jalen Haralson recently visited Michigan, one of the top schools in his recruitment. He discussed in an interview with On3’s Jamie Shaw, revealing that the Wolverines’ staff compared him to former U-M wing Franz Wagner, a current standout for the Orlando Magic.

Michigan is one of many schools that has contacted former Florida State guard Matthew Cleveland, who entered the transfer portal Tuesday night. The Wolverines finished as the runner up in his original high school recruitment back in 2021, Cleveland has said, making it natural that the Maize and Blue hop back in the race for his services.

Quote Of The Day

“As a changeup … when Cade McNamara was here and we saw J.J. come in as a changeup, I think you could use any three of those guys as a changeup from J.J. McCarthy, but especially the mobility and the strength as a runner of Alex Orji.”
