Two former Michigan hockey players were named AHL All-Stars in their first professional seasons — Seamus Casey (Utica Comets) and Frank Nazar III (Rockford IceHogs).

More on Casey from NHL.com:
Casey is one of eight NHL second-round selections named to the AHL All-Star Classic and one of 20 players who have played in the NHL this year.

He is also among just 13 AHL rookies to be named to the AHL’s showcase event. The skills portion of the two-day even will be held on Feb. 4, while the 3-on-3, round-robin tournament will be held on Feb. 5.

Since joining the Comets after making his NHL debut with the Devils this year, Casey has scored two goals and added 12 assists with Utica. He ranks sixth in points among AHL rookie defensemen and ranks 4th in points for Utica behind three forwards: Adam Beckman (19pts-23gp), Brian Halonen (18pts-28gp) and Nolan Foote (16pts-24gp).

Due to an injury, Casey has not played since Dec. 14.

More on Nazar III from AHL.com:
Nazar, 20, ranks top-five amongst AHL rookies with 11 goals and 24 points in 21 games this season. The Detroit, MI native has been riding a league-best eight-game point streak on home ice, finding the scoresheet during every game he’s played at the BMO Center this season.

Nazar’s strong play earned him a call-up to the Blackhawks on December 13th. The center has recorded two points throughout 11 games with Chicago.

Last year, Nazar appeared in three games with the Blackhawks during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring his first NHL goal in his NHL debut on April 14 vs. CAR.

Ferris State offensive line transfer and Michigan commit Lawrence Hatter discussed his decision to choose the Wolverines, saying he loves the way the program plays on the offensive line, and the proximity to his hometown of Livonia.

Sunday will be ‘Pistons Night’ at Crisler Center, when Michigan takes on Washington at 2 p.m. ET.

Michigan graduate center Vladislav Goldin is averaging 26 points per game and shooting 70.9 percent from the field in four contests against top-25 opponents this season.

Quote Of The Day

“I think Andrew Babalola should be considered a high upside, developmental offensive tackle. He’s only been playing football for a couple years and has room to continue improving from an experience and technical standpoint. He flashed the upside, especially Wednesday. I’m looking forward to seeing how he plays in the game.”
