Michigan football stock up, stock down on offense

Harbaugh was asked about Big Ten expansion, his team being ranked No. 2 in the AP poll and the NCAA investigation into him and the Michigan program. He really couldn’t be bothered by any of it, completely “locked in” and focused on the season. He was much more excited to go over his depth chart and how his team has performed in camp than anything else, and it seems like the team has taken the same mentality.

“He’s happy about this football program and this team,” Balas said. “What I would love to see is for them to put [the NCAA situation] behind them. There is still a chance, from what the NCAA told ESPN, that, you know what, maybe something does happen this year in terms of a suspension with Jim Harbaugh. Maybe it’s not expected at this point, but I know people are still talking. To me, that would be ideal, and then you sign Jim Harbaugh to his big deal; Michigan is waiting on that [contract extension] until that NCAA stuff is resolved, and then to have him finish his career here over the next 10 years would be perfect.

“This thing is humming, and if they get the NIL where it needs to be, you look at this team now, and everybody who has been at practice has said the same thing — this is a national championship caliber team, and of course there are always going to be bumps in the road and things that can happen. But there’s no question that this team is extremely talented on both sides of the ball and so deep. They’ve got everything you’re looking for.”

“They check all the boxes,” Broome said of Michigan. “The mentality is there, the culture is there. All this talk about NIL … like they don’t have a roster full of guys that are chasing a bag. All boats are rowing in the same direction.”
