Wolverine TV podcast: What we learned from Michigan team trip, Caleb Love and more
TheWolverine.com‘s Clayton Sayfie, Chris Balas and Anthony Broome discuss their time in Ohio with the Michigan Wolverines football team as it capped off its spring trip, including the most interesting things they picked up from a football standpoint. We also break down Hunter Dickinson heading to Kansas and touched on his Michigan legacy, and North Carolina transfer Caleb Love shooting down rumors started on Twitter that he may not play at U-M next season despite being committed.
Michigan’s team trip is in the books, after stops in New York City, Washington D.C., Gettysburg, Cleveland and Canton. The team saw the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame Thursday — cool experiences to cap things off. Each host shared some of the intel they picked up while conducting interviews and having conversations with members of the Michigan football team Thursday in Ohio. We also discussed just what a unique experience it is for the players to be able to see the sights they did with 100-plus teammates and staff members.
“Some guys are going to take it for granted,” Balas said. “Even when we were in Paris five years ago [on Michigan’s team trip], you had some guys on their phones at Normandy and stuff like that. You’re thinking, ‘Man, they’re just not getting this and they’re going to be kicking themselves in 10 years.’ But 99 percent of the guys there thought of it as a learning experience and absolutely loved it.
“To me, great team-building experience. And you saw it. These guys are invested in each other. This is not a cliquish football team. These guys are tight. To see them really enjoying this and enjoying each other is pretty special.
“I remember the people that were scoffing about these trips and how they wouldn’t help. But there are parents now of players and recruits that are asking, ‘Hey, are you going to continue doing these trips and where are you going?’ So yes, it is, in a sense, a recruiting tool, even though [head coach] Jim Harbaugh doesn’t view it that way.”
