Michigan WR Darrius Clemons enters NCAA transfer portal
Michigan football has lost backup wide receiver Darrius Clemons to the NCAA transfer portal two days after the Wolverines won the national championship with a 34-13 win over Washington in Houston.
Having wrapped up his second season with the Wolverines, Clemons is a sophomore with two years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-3, 212-pounder appeared in 22 games with the Maize and Blue — 11 in 2022 and 11 in 2023. Clemons saw one offensive snap in the national championship game.

In 2022, Clemons made 1 catch for 7 yards, which came in a non-conference game against UConn.
This fall, Clemons was buried on the depth chart behind starting ‘X’ receiver Cornelius Johnson, a graduate student who decided to return for his fifth season with Michigan. Johnson hauled in 47 catches for 604 yards and 1 touchdown. Leading receiver Roman Wilson, a senior, along with sophomore Tyler Morris also received snaps ahead of Clemons.
Clemons totaled 79 offensive snaps in 2023. He only saw 10-plus snaps in four games — against East Carolina (13), Nebraska (24), Minnesota (13) and Michigan State (12). Clemons missed some of training camp and was limited at the beginning of the season due to a hamstring injury.
A four-star recruit, Clemons was the No. 111 overall player in the 202 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. As a prep senior, Clemons scored 17 touchdowns with more than 800 receiving yards and added another 231 return yards and also intercepted two passes. He played both ways as a wideout and defensive back.
Clemons is the third scholarship Michigan player to enter the transfer portal since it opened in December, joining cornerback Cameron Calhoun and linebacker Joey Velazquez. The portal closed for non-graduate football players Jan. 2, but athletes on College Football Playoff teams were granted five days after the conclusion of their season to enter the database.
Clemons is the son of Larry Clemons, a former wide receiver at the University of Florida.
