Michigan WR recruiting targets record impressive track times

Michigan wants to add some size and speed to its wide receiver room this spring, and a few of the Wolverines’ priority pass-catching targets are running track this spring. The 100-meter-dash is not an apples-to-apples comparison for football speed, but it is a useful evaluation data point.
Three U-M receiver targets have already clocked times in that event this season– Mason James, Gordon Sellars and Nalin Scott. All three of them are very close to breaking the 11.0 threshold in the 100-meter.
James clocked the best time of this trio so far, running the race in 11.0 flat. He will likely only improve as the season goes along and already posted a few sub-11 times as a sophomore, including a 10.86 personal record.
The Norman (Okla.) North High receiver checks in at 6-0, 160 pounds and would likely play in the slot for Michigan. He’s the No. 1 recruit in Oklahoma and the No. 173 prospect nationally. James visited Michigan last fall and remains very interested in the program.
“The coaches there have shown me a lot of love recently,” James recently told The Wolverine. “Coach Bell (Ron Bellamy) made a home visit. It was amazing. He has a lot to provide with his track record. Moving forward, they have a lot of big plans for their offense. Michigan stands really high.”
He also ran a 22.10 200-meter-dash at the same meet this season, winning both events for a strong start to his track season.
Scott, a 6-3, 185-pound wide receiver is one of the more physically impressive pass catchers on Michigan’s board, and he’s already proving that he has above average top-end speed as well. The Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern High standout clocked a personal record 11.14 100-meter. He could break 11.0 this season, which would be an impressive time at his size.

The four-star receiver is a top priority target for Michigan. Bellamy visited Scott’s school in January and offered up some advice for his offseason.
“He was just telling me to build some speed up more,” Scott said. “We went over my film again too and just went over some small things to work on.”
Michigan will host the receiver April 5. Scott plans on setting an official visit during that trip as well. Scott ran the 200 earlier this month as well, clocking a personal best 23.21.
Sellars rounds out this list with an 11.15 100-meter time in a race last week. That was a personal best for 6-3, 175-pound receiver and the ninth-fastest time in school history. He’s also a part of three relay teams and helped his squad record the No. 6 time in Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day history with a 1:29.30 4×200.
He’s the No. 186 recruit in the country and the No. 24 wide receiver nationally. Between Sellars, James and Scott, the Wolverines have a chance to add some very solid speed to the Michigan receiver room.
